Overwatch 2 Enthusiasts Express Discontent Over Limited Customization for Onryo Hanzo Mythic Skin

Tämä artikkeli on saatavilla seuraavilla kielillä

The introduction of Mythic skins in Overwatch 2's Season 7: Rise of Darkness has undoubtedly added a fresh layer of excitement to the game's seasonal content. However, fans of the game are feeling somewhat let down by the limited customization options available for the Onryo Hanzo skin, despite its undeniable cool factor.

Mythic skins were meant to usher in a new era of cosmetics, offering unique voicelines and effects along with a wide range of customization possibilities. These options typically included various faces, weapons, outfits, and color schemes, allowing players to personalize their Mythic skins to their heart's content.

Unfortunately, Season 7's Mythic skin, Onryo Hanzo, has deviated from this trend, and it has left many Overwatch 2 players wanting more. This skin offers only five customization options, featuring a choice between two bows and three skin colors. Notably missing are the options to alter the model or outfit, as was the case with previous Mythic skins. With other Mythic skins offering between 8 and 11 customization choices, Onryo Hanzo's limited options are glaringly evident.

In response to the criticism directed at Onryo Hanzo, Overwatch 2 executive producer Jared Neuss took to his personal Twitter account. Neuss emphasized that each skin has its unique priorities, with some focusing on different models and others placing a heavier emphasis on visual effects (VFX). He clarified that Onryo Hanzo falls into the latter category, boasting distinct voice lines, ability effects, and voice modulation. Neuss also stressed that the reduced number of customization options for this skin does not necessarily set a precedent for future Mythic skins in Overwatch 2.

Despite Neuss's explanations, many Overwatch 2 fans remain unconvinced. While the VFX for Onryo Hanzo's abilities are undoubtedly impressive and stylish, players pointed out that other skins, such as Cyber Demon Genji and Amaterasu Kiriko, also feature special VFX. This has led some fans to question whether the development team might have run out of time to fully complete the skin. Some suggest that Blizzard should reconsider committing to a Mythic skin for every season if they cannot deliver equivalent customization options for each one.

Regrettably, Onryo Hanzo is not the only Overwatch 2 skin currently facing criticism from the community. Season 7 introduced a range of highly anticipated Diablo 4 skins for Overwatch 2, but many of these coveted cosmetics are locked behind a $40 bundle. However, the season has also brought some notable additions to the game, including a new map and a thematically fitting Battle Pass, balancing the mixed reception from players.
