October 2024 has been a significant month for Halo enthusiasts. At the Halo World Championship 2024, where Spacestation Gaming took the title, 343 Industries made a major announcement: the studio has rebranded to Halo Studios. Studio Head Pierre Hintze explained that the change aims to revitalize the team’s workflow and creative culture, including a shift to Unreal Engine 5 for future titles. This departure from Halo Infinite’s Slipspace Engine raised concerns about the game’s ongoing support, but fans can rest assured that Halo Studios is still committed to expanding the game’s content.
The recent teaser for the upcoming "Operation: Great Journey" update, shared on the official Halo YouTube channel, showcased a sleek UNSC weapon with a shorter barrel than the standard MA40 Assault Rifle. Fans speculate that this could be the MA5K Avenger, a compact submachine gun variant of the MA5B Assault Rifle popularized by the Spartan-IIIs in the 2006 novel Halo: Ghosts of Onyx. With Master Chief’s iconic line, “I Need a Weapon,” fans hope this addition will bring fresh gameplay to the Halo Infinite arsenal.
However, some fans worry that the new weapon could simply be a reskin rather than an entirely new addition to the game. Halo Infinite launched with a relatively modest selection of weapons, aiming for a more balanced but less extensive armory. Despite this, files from a recent leak suggest that the MA5K Avenger could be accompanied by additional weapons, including the Mutilator shotgun and the classic Covenant Fuel Rod Cannon, helping fill gaps in the game’s sandbox.
Although Halo Studios has yet to officially announce any new weapons, more details are expected with the launch of "Operation: Great Journey" on November 5. Meanwhile, players can enjoy Halo Infinite’s Halloween event, "Operation: Halloween," featuring three new maps, a spooky PVE Firefight mode, and a 20-tier battle pass with the exclusive Spartanstein armor set.
