Fallout 4 retained many elements from its predecessors while introducing changes to the dialogue system, perk tree, and combat mechanics. One of the major additions was the Settlements feature, which allowed players to create custom bases in designated areas. Players have been creative with these spots, building everything from a theater in Vault 88 to Diagon Alley from Harry Potter and even a Dollar General. The Castle, once known as Fort Independence, is a popular Settlement location situated on the coast of South Boston, east of South Boston High School. A player recently stumbled upon a peculiar item on the beach near The Castle after spending countless hours in the game.
Reddit user MembershipSolid7151 shared a clip of their discovery near The Castle. The video shows the player clearing rocks from the beach and collecting Concrete by scrapping them. Concrete is used to build various Settlement structures like walls, floors, stairs, and guard posts. After removing five rocks, the player finds a message in a bottle titled "Predator Becomes Prey." Exiting the Settlement menu, they interact with the message, revealing a clue that hints at hidden treasure. Although the message does not specify an exact location, some players have deciphered it to uncover free loot.
This Fallout 4 Note Leads to Treasure
The Bottled Message found near The Castle leads players to a submerged boat off the coast of Spectacle Island. Upon reading the note, a quest marker appears, guiding players to a small cache containing items like ammunition and caps. There are six hidden bottle messages in Fallout 4's Boston, located in places such as the Lighthouse near the Wreck of the FMS Northern Star, the beach on Boston Airport's peninsula facing Fort Strong, and near a boulder at the southern tip of Spectacle Island. Completing these in sequence can turn the search into a cohesive treasure hunt. Since the treasure is underwater, players might consider equipping the Rescue Diver Suit or using the Aquaboy/Aquagirl perk to assist them.
The video ends before the player collects their reward, leaving it unclear whether they took a break from customizing their Settlement to search for it. With six Bottled Messages scattered around Boston, this might not be the first one players encounter. As Bethesda works on Fallout 5, it's possible that Bottled Messages could make a return in the next installment.
