PlayStation has secured a patent for a controller capable of storing and charging wireless earbuds
PlayStation has filed a patent application, spotted by GameRant, exploring the possibility of equipping a new controller with the functionality to store, charge, and pair wireless earbuds.
The patent includes images illustrating various ways to store earbuds on the controller, including an option beneath the touchpad, suggesting that the product's configuration may not have been finalized at the time of the patent filing.

Such a product would eliminate the need for users to separately pair the controller and headphones with a gaming console, as well as monitor the battery status of the controller, earbuds, and their case to ensure they are charged.
According to Sony, "The controller is designed for use as both an input device and as a storage, charging, and communication tool for the earbuds. Using the controller as a storage and charging device for the earbuds simplifies the user experience, as users no longer have to manage two separate devices."
Sony has also announced plans to release a dedicated PS5 remote play device called PlayStation Portal, as well as their first wireless earbuds, named Pulse Explore. Both products will be available for $199.99/ €219.99/ £199.99.
PlayStation Portal is set to launch on November 15, 2023, in select regions, while the release date for Pulse Explore is yet to be confirmed.
