Digital Extremes has announced job cuts as it closes its external projects division
Digital Extremes has announced the closure of its publishing division and the transfer of control for the online action game "Wayfinder" to the development studio Airship Syndicate. "Wayfinder" was released in early access for PC and PlayStation consoles earlier this year.
A representative from Digital Extremes stated to the site, "We confirm that we have made the difficult decision to close our external projects division. As a result, we had to say goodbye to a number of hardworking and highly valuable team members. We are also working with Airship on a full transition of control over Wayfinder to them in the coming months."

Digital Extremes, without specifying the number of job cuts, was also the publisher of the game "Survived By" developed by Human Head in 2018.
The Tencent-owned studio had announced last year that it is developing a new multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) called "Soulframe." The free-to-play fantasy game is said to be heavily influenced by themes of nature, restoration, and exploration.
Job cuts in the video game industry have been widespread in 2023. Companies affected by layoffs this year include Xbox Game Studios, Epic Games, Sony Interactive Entertainment, CD Projekt, Unity, Ubisoft, Riot Games, Blizzard, Crystal Dynamics, BioWare, Striking Distance, Team17, Frontier Developments, and Telltale Games.
