PUBG's Finger-Lickin' Collaboration: KFC Takes Over Erangel
In the past, only the most skilled players of PUBG: Battlegrounds could savor a victorious chicken dinner in the heart of a 100-player battle royale showdown. However, thanks to a new collaboration between PUBG and KFC, everyone can now relish a chicken feast, regardless of their in-game performance.
As a part of PUBG's 26.1 update, KFC, previously known as Kentucky Fried Chicken, has taken over numerous locations on Erangel, effectively replacing the game's traditional gas stations. In these KFC-styled stores, players can indulge in virtual 12-piece chicken buckets, which serve as a clever promotion to remind players of the delightful taste of fried chicken, with the hopes that they'll consider ordering it in real life.
Ilmaisia jalokiviä sekä päivittäisiä, viikoittaisia ja kuukausittaisia lisäpalkkioita!
Surprisingly, munching on virtual KFC-branded delicacies comes with in-game advantages. Consuming a KFC Chicken Bucket operates like PUBG's first aid kits and is showcased as your character savoring a chicken leg, as clinically described in the 26.1 update patch notes. When it comes to side items, KFC fries serve as a bandage, a less effective healing item, and an unbranded beverage acts as PUBG's energy drink, enhancing a character's boost and movement speed.
Here's a glimpse of what this fast-food indulgence looks like in action.
Players keen on getting their PUBG KFC fix can place orders via an in-game kiosk, and the food magically appears in their inventory. Interestingly, the virtual KFC restaurants appear to be unmanned, probably a wise choice when operating fast food establishments on an island filled with peril. While insulated delivery bags are scattered around the KFC locations, it appears that players can't deliver meals to their squadmates or receive tips for doing so.
The less enjoyable aspect of the PUBG: Battlegrounds and KFC crossover is the proliferation of KFC billboards on various maps, including Erangel, Miramar, Sanhok and Vikendi, as well as KFC banners on the starting planes.
On the positive side, players can don a KFC chicken bucket hat, adding a touch of humor to the experience.
For those who find this kind of overt commercialization unpalatable, don't fret - PUBG: Battlegrounds' KFC promotion is set to run for just one month, according to publisher Krafton.
The 26.1 update for PUBG: Battlegrounds is currently live in the Windows PC version of the game, with players on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X set to receive the update on October 19.
