As players venture into Act 3 of Baldur's Gate 3, a formidable obstacle stands in their path to the city of Baldur's Gate itself: the imposing Wyrm's Rock Fortress. To progress, a route into this stronghold must be found. Luckily, several strategies exist for gaining access, allowing players to circumvent the fortress defenses without relying on powerful magic.

A Leap of Cunning

Upon dealing with the South Span Checkpoint, players can approach the guards at the drawbridge leading to Wyrm's Rock. Adjacent to the drawbridge lies a ladder, descending to a lower section of the bridge. From there, head to the northeast corner, where a broken-off railing hints at a potential route.

Just north of this spot lies a green path, and players can attempt a daring leap onto it. This maneuver inflicts around 40 to 50 damage, but even characters like Sorcerers and Wizards can endure such a fall at this stage of the game. To minimize harm, employing a scroll or potion of Feather Fall is advisable. Alternatively, Misty Step offers enough range to reach the path, and a Jump ability can be utilized to access a higher point, resulting in only 30 to 40 damage.

The Ascent

Having reached the ground, players are presented with two entry points to the fortress. On the east side of the keep, a crack in the wall leads to the prison area. While this path isn't ideal due to taking players to an unintended part of the prison, it does serve as a means to gather any party members left behind on the bridge.

The preferred path, however, lies on the west side of the keep. Here, a wooden platform provides a starting point, with a set of vines enabling the party to climb to a balcony. The balcony's door is both locked and sturdy. Once inside, the room houses a patrolling Flaming Fist guard and two unlocked doors leading to the Audience Chamber. Although permission isn't required to enter this chamber, the guard will become hostile if they catch someone trying to open the inner doors. For stealthy characters, timing the door opening while the guard is distracted is a viable approach.

Upon entering the Audience Chamber, a cutscene initiates. Regardless of how the party infiltrated Wyrm's Rock, the subsequent interaction with Gortash remains consistent. The outcome of this encounter hinges on player choices, effectively concluding the covert path into Wyrm's Rock Fortress.

In the world of Baldur's Gate 3, creative tactics and cunning wits prove just as powerful as magic, enabling players to navigate challenges with finesse and ingenuity.
